When it comes to spirits in Memphis, bourbon reigns supreme… for now. Many liquor stores' selections of rum include the bottom-shelf brands that are typically drunk by the college crowd or for those outside the rum enthusiast community.

That said, there are a few bright spots in town where you can get some quality rums; take a look below for a rolling alphabetical list of Memphis-area retailers who are working to support the Memphis Rum Club and rum in general.

901 Wine & Spirits

Neighborhood: Audubon Place Address: 4730 Spottswood Ave, Memphis, TN 38117

Located in the Audubon Place shopping center in East Memphis, 901 Wine & Spirits has, in my opinion, the best selection of rum in the city. It helps that the owner, Jeff Coole, is a rum enthusiast who has been very supportive of my rum pursuits as well as the Memphis Rum Club as a whole.

At 901 you'll find Foursquare's ECS series, the latest Hampden Estate releases, Transcontinental Rum Line bottles, and a plethora of Holmes Cay's single cask and single origin expressions. Looking for some more affordable, cocktail-oriented bottles? They've got the full lineup of Hamilton releases, as well as other staples like Angostura 7 year, El Dorado 12 year, and Rum Fire.

Buster's

Neighborhood: University Center Address: 191 S Highland St, Memphis, TN 38111

Buster's is certainly one of the better-known liquor stores in central Memphis, due to both its size and its proximity to the University of Memphis. Their rum selection has certainly grown and gotten better in recent years, although you'll find fewer high-grade releases than at 901.

Since they are so big (they also recently opened a location in East Memphis), Buster's has capacity to make a number of Privateer single cask picks, which feature alongside Foursquare, Mount Gay, Clement, and Real McCoy selections.

Germantown Village Wine & Liquor

Neighborhood: Germantown Village Square Address: 7730 Poplar Ave STE 5, Germantown, TN 38138

Germantown Village is located just southeast of Memphis city limits in nearby Germantown. Their rum selection is fairly slim, but they've recently added a number of Holmes Cay single cask expressions, which can be found among Diplomatico, El Dorado, and Grander bottles. Of note, their rum single barrel selection is a tasty Grander ex-Speyside 10 year release; they still have some last time I stopped in.

Joe's Wines & Liquor

Neighborhood: Midtown Address: 1681 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38104

Perhaps best known for their retro-style streetside lighting feature– affectionately called "Sputnik"– Joe's Wines & Liquor is Midtown's stop for any beer, wine, or spirit needs. Manager Sisco Larson has curated a solid selection of rum alongside their other categories, with their shelves typically stocked with El Dorado, Probitas, Privateer, Clement, Pere Labat, and Appleton Estate bottles.

Yorkshire Liquors

Neighborhood: Sea Isle Park Address: 5669 Quince Rd, Memphis, TN 38119

For those located in the southeastern corner of Memphis, you may know Yorkshire Liquors best out of this list. While I think their rum shelf can be improved, they do carry some Holmes Cay Fiji Single Origin bottles, as well as a few Privateer releases. They also still have a good number of our Grander The Oaks single cask bottles remaining.

When we release our quarterly market reports, we post new arrivals to these retailers, when applicable. So keep an eye out for those posts every few months.
